Biggest sporting accolade: Olympic silver medalist, 5 x European Champion, British Record Holder (1500m)

With an Olympic silver medal and 5 European Championship gold medals to her name, Laura Muir has cemented herself at the top of the ranks within British sporting royalty. Since bursting onto the scene in 2017 with two gold medals at the European Championships in Belgrade, Laura has raised the bar in one of athletics’ blue-ribbon events picking up accolades across the world including a remarkable silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games, being twice crowned the Diamond League Champion and setting a new British Record over 1500m, smashing Dame Kelly Holmes’ record in the process.

Laura’s credentials go far beyond the confines of the athletics stadium. Having balanced the pressures of running track at the highest level with studying veterinary medicine at the University of Glasgow for 7 years, she graduated as Doctor Laura Muir in summer of 2018. Studying veterinary medicine was a lifelong ambition for Laura born out of her love of animals, but her practicing career as a vet will be taking a back seat for the time being but she does continue to play an active role in animal welfare as an ambassador for the SSPCA and the face of their annual Pound for Paws campaign.

Having showed the best form of her life in 2021 Laura will be a favourite to bring home gold medals at all three major championships in 2022; the World Champions, the European Champions and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The 2018 Scottish Athlete of the Year is now well and truly among the greats of Scottish sporting history and she is only just getting started.
